In July 2009, I will take an exciting trip to South Korea. I will be traveling with teachers from various states. This program is called the Korean Studies Workshop for American Educators. South Korea is located in Eastern Asia, and it borders the Sea of Japan and the Yellow Sea. China is located to the west of South Korea, Japan to the Southeast, and North Korea to the North. In regards to size, South Korea is slightly larger than Indiana. It has a population of 48.5 million people. South Korea is now the United States' seventh-largest trading partner and is the 13th-largest economy in the world. Approximately 49% of South Koreans practice Christianity, 47% practice Buddhism, 3% practice Confucianism, and 1% practice Shamanism.
I am thrilled to have such an incredible opportunity to visit South Korea. I will spend time in Seoul, which is the capital city. I will study at Yonsei University, and I will visit many schools and government buildings. I am very excited about visiting the demilitarized zone which separates North and South Korea.
